Support
Email support@popcorn-potato.app. Tell us which device you use, what you did, and what happened instead.
If something won't connect or play, upload your logs first: Settings › Performance logs › Upload logs, or Settings › Debug on Apple TV. Then tell us roughly when it happened. Titles and file names are removed before anything is sent.
Common problems
Potato can't reach my share
Check that the computer is awake and on the same network. If it doesn't allow guests, add the share with a user name and password from an account on that computer. On a Mac, that's your Mac's user name and password, and File Sharing must be on in System Settings › General › Sharing.
My share works at home but not away
Edit the share and list its other addresses under Other addresses, in the order to try: its home address, say, then its Tailscale or VPN address. Potato tries each until one answers. You can set this on iPhone, iPad and Mac, not Apple TV.
A title has the wrong poster
Open it, choose Change match in the About section, and pick the right title. Potato keeps your choice, even after a full refresh.
A title has no poster
Potato couldn't match it, so it's listed under Unmatched, where you can search for it by hand. It still plays. Files named like Charade (1963).mkv or Show S01E02.mkv match on their own.
The synopsis or episode names are out of date
Open the title and choose Refresh info. If the refresh fails, nothing you had is lost.
A file won't play
Potato plays MP4, MKV, AVI, DivX, Xvid, H.264 and H.265. If other files play and this one doesn't, upload your logs and email us its file type and the time you tried.
How to
Watch without a connection
On iPhone, iPad or Mac, open a film, season or show and choose Download. Potato copies it from the share and plays the copy, even when the share is off. Set how much space downloads may use in Settings › Downloads.
Watch in a web browser
On a Mac, turn on Settings › Share over HTTP. On another device on your network, open the address it shows and enter the passcode. It works while Potato is open on the Mac. When a browser can't play a file, it offers a download instead.
